Thanks to all those that came to our Whanau Beach day, I know we all had lots of fun. Check out the photo wall.
We know that you have had some wonderful holiday adventures as we are hearing about it all the time. The kete idea is a great success. Such a fantastic way to share a little of your holiday experiences with us. If your child hasn’t shared their adventures with us, you can bring back their kete with photos, bits and pieces collected or whatever they wish. It is wonderful to see children identifying similar experiences which is sparking great conversation.
Health/Oral Health Week 20th—24th March. During this week we will focus on how to keep ourselves healthy including healthy food and how to brush teeth. We have a challenge for you, over that week we plan to have packet less lunches, not only is the food healthier but saves our environment.
We have Norma from the Dental Association visiting us at end mat time on the 22nd March to talk about the “best practice” for oral health. We are also visiting the Dental Truck at the school on Tues 21st and Weds 22nd at 10.45am so met Michelle. We will see what she does and hear what she has to tell us about our teeth. If your child doesn’t come on those days you are welcome to join us.
Storypark - We have noticed that many families are not checking their child's learning stories on storypark. We suggest you look at them with your child too. Also please return profile books as we like to put their stories in straight away as the children love to revisit their learning.
After research “mat times” last year and with the change in our opening times we have decided for the benefit of our children's learning to not have a mat time in the morning. We will continue to have a mat time before lunch to share news and learning waiata etc.
We have our annual bike week March 27-31. Unfortunately Sports BOP are on longer running Tykes on Trikes in Katikati. We are all a bit disappointed about that, we have been going for 6 years. For this week we talk about road safety and ask that everyone brings along a bike or scooter and helmet for the whole week. We cordon off the car park and make a track with ramps and traffic signs. We have spare bikes if you don’t have one.
We are planning a bus trip to Reretakahia Maere in the next month. This is another annual event that we all enjoy and learn a little bit more about our bi-cultural nation. We spend the morning at the Maere then head off for a bush walk. A fantastic day that everyone is invited.
We are off to a blooming good start with already taking flowers and sharing our joy at Summerset, with another visit planned for 14th March. We will visit Lexham Park 23rd Feb and 23rd March. With Summerset only 7 children at time go, however for Lexham Park we all walk.
Lately we have been exploring our children’s interests in dragons, treasure hunts, rock painting and doctors dramatic play.
The play house is in dire need of a make over. Alisa (Hili’s Mum) has kindly taken on the “creative directors” role so some time in the near future we will be having a working bee to create and renovate.
Our rolls are full at present so if you want to change/add days or know families wanting to enrol please do asap so we can put names on the waiting list.
Reminders: There are a few outstanding fees, please pay as the teachers need their wages. Spare clothes and a named hat and drink bottle is a must, please provided them for your children. Nits are often out, please help us stop the cycle.
