What’s happening at Pukeko Corner?
So much has been happening it is hard to keep up.
What a great Disco night we had, lots of fun, laughter and of course dance moves. Congratulations again to our two Ruth's for winning the best dressed title.
The Little Blue House Art Exhibition was another big success, thanks to the wonderful creative talent of our children and the teachers effort to make it look beautiful.
We continue to build on our relationships with our friends at Lexham Park by visiting once a month. What a sight to see, our children making friends, bringing smiles and laughter to our older generation. This month we are in for a treat. We get to show off our kindy with 4-5 residents coming to visit us.
Research about intergenerational relationships in Early
Childhood re-affirms how beneficial these relationships are.
For those who couldn’t make the Child Protection Hui we will be doing it again in two years time. Great practical advice was given to help keep our children safe.
Animal play is a favourite with the children and has been for a while with the tails and plastic animals getting lots of use in a variety of dramatic play games. We have been enjoying our new CD stories/songs. Singing along with them, acting them out and creating props. Our favourites are “We’re going on a Croc hunt” and “My Daddy ate an Apple.”
Water Wall/fence
This is our latest little project. It all started with some children trying to pour water through our peep holes on the fence. In a moment of inspiration Cathy put a funnel with a hose through the hole and back through the other. Wow.. what laughter and excitement there was as the water trickled out. Check out the water display and add your ideas on the wooden board. With all the water play please provide several sets of spare clothes.
Avalon Training Centre
What a wonderful experience for us all. We initially invited our friends from Avalon to inspire us with their passions and creative techniques before the Little Blue House Art Exhibition. Much to our delight we now have two artists and Julie their supervisor visiting fortnightly on a Wednesday. Addison has already made a friend in Nadine.
Sunhats, Sunhats, Sunhats and Sunblock!!
Yes it’s that time of year! Please provide a sunhat for your Child; a wide brim is better. We have a rule for Term 1 and 4... No hat, no outside play. Sounds harsh but it’s the sun that is harsh on the young skin of our children. For those new to our summer routines, please sun block your children at home and we will re-apply after lunch with our natural sunblock. All our sunshades will be put up soon.

Prenzal and Nutrimetics Fundraising Party On Friday 14th November at 7pm we have a social evening for adults to mix and mingle, make some new friends, sample some delicious Prenzel products, and check out the wonderful natural Nutrimetics products. This year we decided to extend our evening into a mini market so if you are arty or crafty and what to sell your wares as Christmas presents please talk to one of the teachers. This is a fundraising evening so bring along as many people as you can. Consequences The word consequences has been playing a major role in the teacher’s language and discussions lately. We are finding that some children’s ears are not listening all that well. At mat times we have been talking about how we can make our kindergarten a happy place, with happy teachers and happy children. A lot of discussion about putting things away when finished with and listening to what teachers ask. Consequences come into play when children have been asked twice to do something, knowing that they have heard the request then there is a natural consequence relevant to the action. Christmas Parade We will be entering another float in the Christmas Parade on 6th December. We have won 3 times already! And runners up twice. All offers of help greatly appreciated. Photos We will be taking a group photo on Thursday 30th October at 9am if you wish your children to be in it. Please put this date on your calendar so you don’t miss out.

Literacy Survey
Corina and Cathy have started surveying you for feedback on our literacy professional development and whether you see literacy
occurring naturally within your children’s play. Literacy includes reading, writing, music, listening, and technology. We are also
asking for information on the literacy that happens at home, so we can work with you. To support this we would love your child to bring their favourite book to kindy to share with us all.
Book Club
Pauline, Isla’s Mum has kindly offered to help organise this for us. Four times a year you will be given a pamphlet in your pocket and if you choose to order some of the wonderfully discounted books then fill out the form and pay by the given date. We receive 20% of the total to buy books for our kindy.
Abacus Calendars
This year the children can use their own artwork (paper supplied), or photos. All art work and photos must be in by 7th November. You can submit your own photo online if you wish. Note: Photos for calendars should be in a landscape format.
