What’s on at Pukeko Corner?
The Little Blue House Art Exhibition was a great success thanks to all your support. Didn’t it look great, definitely had the WOW effect. We had lots of visitors who were amazed at the creativity of our children. For those who didn’t get down to have a look, check out the photos on the website.
Over the Fence. We have been on lots of walks. Down town to post letters, Lexham Park, to buy seedlings for our garden, the library, the playground, the park plus lots of Little Blue house visits and a visit to the kapahaka group at KK primary. Why stay within the fence when there is so much more we can experience and explore over the fence.
Matariki Celebration. Come join us for a shared lunch 12.30pm this Friday 12th July to celebrate all the food from God’s creations, the land and sea, that He has blessed us with. Please bring along some food to share.
Maori Language Week (1—7 July). The focus this year was on Maori place names and their correct pronunciation. We discussed Katikati and its meaning (nibble, nibble) with the children. Te Reo Maori is an area that we as teachers are always learning and gaining more confidence in. It helps that Corina is studying a paper at The Wananga o Aotearoa and feeds some of the language back to us. We are also teaching the children the waiata E toru nga mea.
Graduation Day this term is Wednesday 17th of July where we welcome back those who have gone to school over the past few terms. What a wonderful time to reignite old friendships and for them to joyfully play.
Transition to School. Since the beginning of the year we have focused more on working with the families of the older children on how we can assist with this huge and exciting milestone of starting school. This includes a questionnaire, a meeting, and the child having a Home Kete with suitable resources. The younger children have said they can’t wait till they get their Kete too.
We have also had Pam from the University of Waikato provide professional development on transitions to school and she said we were on the right track.
Kati Kai Way. A community project that grows fruit for all of us to share in Gilfillan Reserve. We are planning to be part of the next planting working bee on the 17August (24th if raining). The great thing about this project is that it is in one of the reserves that we frequent so we can play, do a bit of weeding and then have a snack.
Updated Website. We thought it was about time that we changed the look of our almost 6 year old website. Please have a look!! If anyone has any suggestions or ideas please let Cathy know.
Letter Box. Kim has been arranging with your children to get a photo with their letterbox to put in our letterbox box. It is a great numeracy tool and supports a child’s sense of belonging with links to home.
