What's going on at the Corner?

A makeover has taken place here at our kindy over the holidays.  Thanks to the teachers vision and Cathy’s whanau's sweat, we now have a very impressive new outdoor area!!!  The deck has been cleaned and looks like new, the outdoor area is fresh, natural and inviting, some outside walls have been painted as a desire to create a clean imaginative area.  Some things you may not have noticed were the outside easel has been re painted along with some of the outdoor boxes, the mud area has been spruced up with some very impressive looking manuka and the children’s hose handles have been replaced as a water saving tool.

We have a further vision of revamping the play house, and moving toward more natural life like resources, meaning our plastics are being fazed out and more wooden bowls, utensils and metal resources will be available instead.

Holiday fun in the sun and at beaches

Most families enjoyed the beach over their holiday time.  Your teachers have been inundated with tales of swimming in surf and sea, along with camping, making sand castles and generally enjoying our beautiful country!! So it is with this in mind that we thought once again we would begin our year with a poster about “What each family did, and where you did it over the holiday period”.   In the past this has been a wonderful way to revisit our fun times, encourage and challenge our ability to recall details, compare beaches, recognise other places in our country and world, show others who we share our precious time with, and present this information to a group!!!!!

If you could help your child/ren make a poster detailing their holiday experiences, we will encourage them to show others, public speak and then place it on our learning wall.

Haiku beach day

Saturday 2nd March  at 10am, we thought to have our own day together at the beach.  Last year was so successful we thought “lets do it again”!!!.  However this year we thought about going to the Haiku, there is a small sandy area, a very safe river, and an extremely large grass area.  PERFECT!!!, we won’t have to worry about tides this year.  Please bring some kind of shade for yourself as there is a shortage of shady areas.  We encourage you to bring outdoor games to share, spades and buckets etc, we will provide a shaded gazebo, and a barbecue should you decide to cook up a real summer munch!!!

Sports Bay of Plenty

GETTING READY FOR SCHOOL WORKSHOP!

We will be running a program to help ready yourselves and your children for shool.  Kirsty Carling from Sports Bay of Plenty will be a specialised speaker here at kindy Thursday 21 March at 7pm.  Please come along and join us for an evening that will surprise, and inspire you

Tykes on Trikes

A riding experience for under 5’s.  Decorate your own bike at home and the next day we will transport our bikes to Moore Park. So.. on Tuesday 19 Feb between 10am -12 noon, we will be racing around on our best dressed bikes!!.  Please remember a helmet and water bottle for this day.

Sun smart

As usual the message is to be safe in our extremely hot conditions of late.  Please remember to sun block all exposed and some unexposed skin, especially if children are wearing t shirts under their jumpers!! They end up stripping off outer garments first thing in the morning leaving their skin vulnerable until we block them after eating lunch!!.  This can sometimes be a little late for their precious skin.

Please remember also to have a wide brimmed hat here for your child to use.  Please name your hat and all clothing, knickers, shoes, socks and singlets as we end up with a huge stock pile of beautiful clothing each week.

Housekeeping

Please, please, ensure that you sign in at 8.30am and out at 2.45pm, each time you attend.  This not only ensures our correct funding but also it enables us to know who is here in case of an emergency.

Mega fun club

Mega fun club has started once again!!  Mega fun club was designed initially for whanau who needed a different pick up time at the end of each kindy day.  This has always been a popular club for attending children, however over the years this service was not required so we put this club to rest, until now!!! When parents started making enquires for time extensions.

SO............  Mega fun club starts at 2.45, you choose how long you want your child’s day extended to, this is chosen in 15min increments at $1.50, to a final time of 4.15.  Please enrol your child for a mega fun club position.

Enrolment

The ministry of education is staring the national student number from preschool age this year.  We will require a new updated enrolment form to be filled in for each child and you will need to bring in your childs birth certificate or passport, to be copied and held on file by your teachers or Di in the office.

Corina teaching full time

You asked for it and the Lord made it so!!  Corina will be teaching full time as of the 4th Feb.  Thank you Corina for accepting the fuller days.

Cathy returning

Cathy will be easing back into work, here Mondays and Fridays, and Wednesday afternoons.  She is looking forward to getting to know your precious children better.
