What’s going on at the Corner???

To help promote our healthy eating for this term, we have started cooking and baking our own food.  Kim has recently introduced children to spinach muffins, Gina is embarking on making our own chutney and Jody is planning a pizza session!!!  Jody’s Nan is coming to cook with the children too. Healthy pizza you say?, yes pizza can be topped with loads of healthy options. Watch this space!

Mathematics, literacy, science and team work are our four main learning strands when we bake/cook together.

 Health promotion

It is awesome to see many of our children bringing healthy food to eat at kindy.  A sandwich, some fruit, healthy crackers and water only is the way to encourage life long healthy choices.

Visiting honesty boxes is a cheap and fresh way to pick up lovely fruit.

 Oral health

Oral health and hygiene is always an on-going concern for us here at kindy.  Your teachers attended a workshop on oral hygiene.  Check out your notice board, it is full of healthy options. AND we will be in the paper soon showing off our well earned oral health certificates.

 Oral health enrolment

You will also be receiving an enrolment form for the local dental clinic, please fill these in and sign them as soon as you can.  They are post free.

  Sexual abuse workshop

We held a sexual abuse workshop here at kindergarten.  Jody sent out invitations to the wider educational sector, and also some parents who heard about it also attended.  We have rewritten our ‘child protection policy’, in light of the new information we learned.  This policy is waiting for you feedback, it is displayed on the kitchen window notice board.

 Mobile dental unit

The mobile dental unit will be at Katikati Primary on 30 April to 25 June, please take advantage of this and make an appointment for your child/children.

Sun hats

It is not essential for children to wear a sunhat outside anymore.  Please remember to take their hats home.  A little sun is good for the soul and for Vitamin D.

Lost property

We have a huge amount of lost property.  Please claim your child’s property and take it home.  Lost property can be found on the outside table.

 School visits to Kati Primary

Kim has the pleasure of school visits this term. Our visit to school is determined by how many children will be starting school in the term.  If there are not enough children to take to a school visit, we will suggest that you take your child instead.  All information can be attained from us if you need it.

Students

Our wonderful student Stacey has finished her time with us.  She is awaiting her capping.  We have all enjoyed Stacey as part of our team, she will be very much missed by the children and teachers.  We wish Stacey the greatest of blessings and hope she is able to find herself a wonderful teaching position.

We also have  a few college students who will be joining us for a few hours on some mornings, this is to help them make decisions on their future careers.  The more teachers the merrier in the world of education!

 Baby watching

We have continued our baby watching with Pauline and Isla.  Isla is rolling over and now has two teeth.  She eats mashed fruit, but is still not keen on mashed potato/veges!!.  Our children are learning about how to anticipate the needs of Isla, while watching her develop and grow stronger muscles and bones.  Our children ask questions to Pauline about Isla, which further encourages our young learners to be interested learners who ask questions and challenge answers.  The benefits of baby watching is endless.

 Thank you

Thank you, you wonderful families for sharing your precious children with us here at kindy.  We believe we have the most amazing jobs in the whole world.  Challenging at times, yes for sure, but rewarding all the time!!
