What’s going on at the Corner???

Barrow day was hugely successful, raising over $1100!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU all for your support in purchasing your children’s unique artwork, buying raffle tickets, sponsoring our wheelbarrow runners, and those who bravely raced in teams with the wheelbarrow on the Lions club barrow day. All the money has gone towards a Whanau home in Hamilton for those families with cancer to stay in while they are recovering. The raffle winners were Jacob Bryan and family for the fabulous wheelbarrow and goodies, and Dianne Ward our administrator for the beautiful ceramic hearts kindly created by Catlin’s Mum, Tania.

Wow, the DANCE Party was awesome. What a turnout with 80% of our families coming. We boogied, ate, boogied, chatted, ate, and boogied some more. Your children were incredible, so confident and keen to show off their dancing skills. Of course they have already asked when is our next dance party!

We had a great morning with some of the residents and nurses of Lexham Park. The children naturally incorporated them in their play. It is great to see their respect for their elders.

The children were fascinated with the visit by the student nurses on a Tuesday morning. They taught them all how to care for their teeth. Has there been any discussion at home from the experts?

With Cathy’s growing belly it is not surprising that one of the main childrens’ interests is babies. Every day there are ‘pregnant’ children, babies ‘born’ and babies cared for. Discovering how babies are made has had a provocative and hilarious response. This week Cathy’s midwives are going to visit at mat-time on Tuesday and Thursday morning, and we’re sure the children will be fascinated.

We are in the process of advertising for a long term reliever for Cathy. She is planning to leave approximately the middle of August, but will never be able to stay away.

Has anyone got a wooden changing table they are wanting to sell???  Please let Cathy know if you have.

Every child needs one person who is rationally and irrationally committed to their welfare. We are no one without a committed someone. Professor Richard Whitfield

Movie night

This Friday night, 25 June, we have our movie on our big screen at kindy. It will be a new release and we are looking forward to relaxing and having some laughs with you. Please let us know if you are intending to come. We’ll supply some nibbles, you just need to bring your own beanbag or chair or blankie!

Graduates Visit

Once again we will be inviting past Pukeko Corner children who have left recently for school to come and play and catch up with their old friends here on 6 July. This is a very special time for those who have left, and those here who miss them – both the children and teachers.

Teachers Only Day and Holiday Dates

We are having a Teachers Only day on Friday, 9 July, right before we shut for a week for the July holidays on 12 - 16 July. We will be looking at our Annual and Strategic Plan.

Professional Development

Jody and Diane attended a music workshop by Kidsmusic Company recently. I am sure your children will be coming home with some new catchy songs soon. Corina and Cathy attended the Christian Early Childhood Conference and came back with many new ideas and resources.

Grandpa Gary and Cathy went to a workshop run by the University of Waikato on Positive Guidance.

Every course and workshop attended by members of our team is always feed back to the rest of us. Often new ideas and articles of research are discussed in reflection of our practices.

Housekeeping

Please, please, ensure that you sign in at 8.30am and out at 2.45pm as funding may be reduced if you are always late.

In an effort to reduce lost property we are no longer having the lost property box and encouraging the children’s self-skill by asking them to put their belongings in their lockers.
