What’s going on at the Corner???

Well our fashion design interest has come back with gusto since the sewing machines have made a comeback.   Check out our stories on the planning wall.  The children’s designs have become more complex and detailed as they gain more knowledge of material and what is possible.  The walk to the Op Shop to buy clothes was a success, we have been cutting, sewing and embellishing second-hand clothes, and boy has it opened a whole new world.

We are planning another Fashion Week (30th June and 3rd July), how can we not, we have had many requests from children to do it again.  Details to follow in a special invitation.

Scones and baking are another big thing at the moment, we have almost made them every day for three weeks.  Our children are getting very clever at measuring, following a recipe and knowing if they need to add more flour or milk depending on texture.  Soon we will try out some other individual recipes.

We have had some wonderful visitor lately; Kay (Axel and Campbell’s Nana) came and showed us how to create felt out of sheep wool, a lot of perseverance from our children created beautiful felt balls and snakes. Sewing runs in Brayden’s family, his Mother Kim and Nana Carol both spent a morning sewing with the children. We created a quilt for the playhouse bed (not quite finished) and a fantastic dancing dress and shorts for dress ups.  Thanks Kay, Carol and Kim for taking the time to share your interest and knowledge with us.

Jemima and Fluffy are excited at the prospect of going home to children’s houses over the weekend.  If you would like to book your family in please see a teacher.

And yes the rumour is true; Cathy is getting married on the 21st of November.  Many outfits have already been created for the day, due to this excitement and wedding interest there is an open invitation to you and your child to the wedding ceremony

Corina is having a great time with Ross her husband travelling around Europe; she is due back Monday the 29th June.  Janet and Andrea have been doing a great job at filling the gap, and just in case you haven’t seen Gina for a while she hasn’t left us, instead has been doing some shorter days (9.30-1.45)

We are planning a Teacher only day on Friday 10th July.  Normally we would had one at Easter but the timing of the holiday would have been inconvenient for parents.  Teachers will be using the day to review our policies and philosophy.

Have you read your child’s profile book lately?  Teachers are working really hard at capturing your child’s learning.  Most often you will see a space for you as parents and whanau to write comment, add ideas or views.  We would love to hear what’s happening at home with your child’s learning, recording experiences that add to what’s happening at Pukeko Corner. Before you know it, you will be writing learning stories.  Books with new stories are in the red book next to the sign in sheet.

It has come to our attention that a number of children like to do homework with their older siblings so we have created the Whanau Fun Pack.  The pack has variety of activities that you can take home and children can do either individually or with siblings.

We will be doing more walks in our community.  If you have a free morning and would like to join us please see Cathy.  For most walks we need one extra adult to maintain our ratio for being outside the Kindergarten. In July we will be off to Lexingham Park to share our love through song and showing off our fashion design outfits.

Health

We have recently up-dated our pandemic policy under the guidance of the Ministry of Education to make sure we and our community are prepared for what may come.    We see no reason to panic we just need to be sensible in our hygiene practises.  We at Pukeko Corner have been reinforcing good hand washing and drying techniques, encouraging sneezing and coughing into the inside of elbow.  We require you to do the same at home.  If your child is sick please keep them at home, this not only prevents spreading but also is best for the wellbeing of your child.  Please do not be offended if we ask you to take your child home.

We have an emergency contact list, if your details or contacts have changed recently; please let us know as soon as possible. If you have an email address, in case of the Pandemic reaching Katikati this could be the easiest form of communication.

Thanks for all your support.

God Bless,

Cathy, Gina, Corina, Gary, Jody, Janet, Andrea and Dianne.
