Pukeko Corner Philosophy
Centre Vision: To inspire the love of learning.
Rationale:
Pukeko Corner Kindergarten was developed from a passion and knowledge of the importance of quality early childhood education within a community.
Values:
Our values are based on the Christian faith and the uniqueness of our bicultural nation. We regard kindness, compassion, honesty, responsibility, being co-operative and having respect for each other and the environment as important attributes. Our environment inspires curiosity and the love of learning.
We believe
¨ That children are a gift from God, therefore it’s our responsibility to demonstrate and teach how much we are all loved by God.
¨ That each child and their whanau are precious and bring a unique set of capabilities, knowledge and culture to the Kindergarten.
¨ That we aim to meet all children’s holistic needs, (social, emotional, physical, spiritual and cognitive development), through understanding, listening and responding to individuals as capable learners.
¨ Creating a “community of learners” through a partnership with parents, whanau, teachers, children and the local community. Communication with openness and honesty to gain understanding in order for all to reach full potential.
¨ In promoting understanding, respect and love for our environment and the role and responsibility we all play in its conservation and care.
¨ In fostering relationships and involvement with our centre, local and wider community.
¨ That a child learns best through play, experiences and relationships within our community.
¨ That the curriculum we offer must be based on Te whaariki; providing a variety of challenges and experiences based on children’s interests and strengths.
¨ In the importance of creating a positive, fun, safe and interactive environment, where children and teachers learn alongside each other, developing a passion for learning and tools that prepare for life.
¨ In the unique place of Maori as tangata whenua and this is reflected within our daily teaching practice and learning environment.
¨ In the importance of planning and reviewing of our service to ensure implementation of our philosophy.
¨ That ongoing professional development and support is essential for teachers to grow and reach their full potential as individuals, educators and team members.
¨ In the importance of inspiring creativity and learning using natural resources where possible
We acknowledge and respect New Zealand as a multicultural nation and will endeavor to gain knowledge from our community and impart that into our learning environment.
