About Pukeko Corner
Pukeko Corner has been a long-held vision for owner Cathy Meyer (nee Knowlson), a qualified Early Childhood teacher.
Introduction to Owner/Manager Cathy Meyer
My parents moved to Katikati when I was 17, and although I didn't go to school here, I always came home during university holidays to work. I studied at Waikato University, gaining a Diploma in Teaching (ECE) and Bachelor in Education.
I have worked since 1996 in a variety of Early Childhood Centres, including 6 years in a private kindergarten in Auckland, with 4 of those years in a supervising position. I worked for the Wellington Community Childcare Association as a consultant providing management and teacher registration support part time while nannying Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh's children, Billy and Katie.
I have travelled extensively and in most places visited the local Early Childhood Centre, I just couldn't help myself. I have spent 3 months in Vladivostok, Russia working with street kids, 6 months teaching English to 3-5 year old Korean kids, and 3 months in Czech Republic training for Misson/Volunteer work. I think my experiences are reflected in my teaching approach and our kindergarten environment.

Parents, family and caregivers play an important role in our Kindergarten! To successfully meet the needs and develop a love for learning in children we need the support from parents/whanau. Our teachers make a real effort to let parents know what their children have been up to during the day and we have recently developed the Whanau wall where children and their families can display what they have been up to in the weekend or holidays. A great learning experience for all.
A child learns holistically in the community that surrounds them, with family at the centre. We would like to work in partnership with parents and family in establishing learning outcomes and goals for your children.
This communication can happen at any time. You can make a time with teachers if you wish or just chat at pick up or drop off.
Over The Fence
We are a communtiy based centre, proud and committed to being involved and part of something bigger than ourselves. We walk everywhere and try to be part of every community event that happens.
Monthly we share our love with the people of Lexham Park (Resthome and Hospital). We visit our local library, playgrounds, climb trees in the park, fly kites and kick balls on the college back field.
We have a saying "Why stay within the fence when there is so much more to explore outside the fence"
